Match Report: Safari FC vs Milan
Season Opener – February 16, 2025 6:00PM
Location: Meadowmere Park
The Spring 2025 season kicked off in chilling conditions, with the temperature hovering around 30°F, which contributed to a slow start as both teams struggled to find their rhythm. Safari FC had an early advantage in possession, dictating the tempo of the game. However, the match’s opening moments saw missed opportunities as Safari FC’s forward, Tholo known for his blistering pace, created havoc for the Milan defense but failed to convert.
Despite having several clear-cut chances in the first half, Tholo couldn’t get past Milan's goalkeeper, who made two crucial saves, while the others were sent wide. Safari FC’s Asu also had a couple of significant chances in the first half. After playing a nice series of passes between himself, Govern, and Jesus in the midfield, Asu found space to shoot but blasted the ball well over the crossbar both times. His missed opportunities proved costly as Safari FC struggled to convert early pressure into goals.
The breakthrough came for Safari FC in the 35th minute when Jesus, operating on the left wing, showcased his skill with a dazzling dribble. After evading two Milan defenders, he unleashed a precise low-driven shot into the bottom left corner of the net, putting Safari FC 1-0 up.
Milan responded quickly, though, when the referee awarded them a penalty after a foul from Safari FC’s Dafe inside the box. Milan’s striker converted the spot-kick, leveling the game at 1-1 just before halftime.
The second half saw both teams come out strong, but Safari FC quickly ramped up the intensity. It was Tholo who finally broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, finding the back of the net after several near misses earlier in the game. Tholo, showing confidence, cheekily commented, "I score when it matters!" as his goal proved crucial.
Safari FC’s captain, Cheche, added a third goal in the 70th minute, after some determined attacking play. However, his performance wasn’t without blemish, as he missed a couple of earlier chances and was also involved in an unfortunate defensive error that led to Milan’s second goal. Cheche failed to clear the ball cleanly, allowing Milan to pounce and reduce the deficit to 3-2.
Tempers flared late in the game, with Safari FC's Asu receiving a red card in the 75th minute for an off-the-ball altercation in which he punched an opposing player. Despite being a man down, Safari FC continued to push forward, and Kevo sealed the win with a fourth goal in the 80th minute. Just minutes earlier, Tholo had sent him through on goal with a perfectly weighted pass, but Kevo had struck the post in a golden opportunity. However, he redeemed himself soon after with a perfectly driven shot to ensure Safari FC's victory.
The match ended 4-2 in favor of Safari FC, who, despite missing numerous chances, were clinical enough in key moments to take all three points. Milan, while resilient, could not capitalize on Safari FC's errors, leaving them to rue missed opportunities of their own.
